Winners Announced for 2020 Blake Jones Trout Derby – Bishop Chamber Thankful for Community Support!

The 52nd annual Blake Jones Trout Derby is “in the books” and considering the challenging circumstances presented by Coronavirus, organizers have deemed it a success! In order to reduce risk to derby attendees, staff and volunteers, the Chamber cancelled the weigh-in and prize party and put all entries into one big raffle. “The fish had been stocked and prizes had been gathered,” explains Chamber Event Coordinator April Leeson. “We knew people wanted to fish and they love a chance to win prizes. We’re grateful we were able to modify this year’s event at the last minute.”

339 people entered this year’s contest. That is about two-thirds of normal. “Only a few people requested refunds and the vast majority were very understanding and gave really positive feedback,” added Leeson.

Each winner received a prize package containing fishing gear, apparel, gift certificates and more. Raffle winners in the adult category were: Roger Romero (Bishop), Mark Stringer (Murrieta), Matthew Larson (San Bernardino), Phillip Wayman (El Monte), Sergio Ramos III, Tommy Yeomans (Fullerton), Tony Seaman, Jr. (Lancaster), John Bishop, Bill Kujawa (Bishop), Mickey Jarvis (Bishop) and Aracely Garcia (Monrovia). Raffle winners in the youth category were: Jake Tibbett (Santa Clarita), Sabrina Sanchez (Pomona), Erick Gillette (Lancaster), Brenton Velazquez (Pearblossom), Eric Eddy, Jr. (Big Pine), Ruby Jenkins (Bishop), Chet Jenkins (Bishop) and William Hally (Lake Elsinore).

While the Bishop Chamber is the proud organizer of the beloved annual event, it’s important to note that many local and national businesses support the Blake Jones Derby by providing co-sponsorship funds and merchandise used for prizes.

Just reminding you to PLEASE PUT YOUR FISHING PLANS ON HOLD! We are asking all guests to Bishop and the Eastern Sierra NOT to visit NOW. As we humans are all grappling with the coronavirus, please know the fish that have been planted will just be BIGGER and more FUN when the Eastern Sierra opens its doors back up to our guests. Until then, please stay healthy at home, and feel free to share fish stories with us (even if they aren't true). With love from Bishop. We look forward to seeing you again once it’s safe to travel. ... See MoreSee Less

From our friends at Mule Days...Dear Mule Days friends,

It is with heavy hearts that the Board of Directors announces that we have made the decision to postpone the Mule Days Celebration until May of 2021. As we had stated at the outset, we continually monitored the situation with officials from a variety of sources. Finally, in consultation with our local public health officials it simply was no longer reasonable to move forward.

We will miss our friends, mule fans, visitors, volunteers, contestants, vendors, advertisers and sponsors who come from nearly every state in America and several countries. We value and appreciate all who have worked so hard to bring together 50 Years of the “Greatest Mule Show on Earth”. But it is out of an abundance of caution for the health and wellbeing of our Eastern Sierra communities and for those who visit us that we make this decision.

In the coming days we will be working to connect with everyone regarding tickets, deposits, entries and reservations. As we continue to practice mandatory safety protocols our response time may be slow so we ask for your patience. We expect to communicate regularly through our social media, email and website in order to keep you updated as we work through this difficult time.

Wishing you a peaceful week with this little video. It is likely snowing at Intake 2 right now (the mountains are completely socked in), but this is how it looked last Friday 😍. ... See MoreSee Less
