10 Eastern Sierra Audubon Society- Antarctica Photo Journal with Bob & Susan Steele The Eastern Sierra's nationally known bird photographer, will present new, extremely high-quality photos and entertaining stories about touring and cruising the southern reaches of the Southern Hemisphere. The theme will be birds, wildlife and scenery of the Southern Ocean. The Steeles' 24-day expedition cruise included visits to the Falkland Islands, South Georgia Island and the Antarctic Peninsula. Seven species of penguin, four species of seal, many species of pelagic (seagoing) birds and incredible mountains, glaciers and sea ice are among the sights that will be shown. Of special interest will be the 100-mile-long isolated South Georgia Island, a land of extremes, with towering mountains, huge glaciers and a large percent of the world's breeding King Penguins - mostly contained in two huge colonies. Local Wildlife Biologist, Timothy Taylor from the California Department of Fish & Game will share his knowledge and research on the Round Valley Mule Deer Herd and other wildlife that rely on this important area for successful migration and winter range habitat. 1 - 30 Bishop Creek Canyon Summer Classic Trout Derby. This is a month-long fishing derby from June 1st through June 30th. Fishing the lakes of Bishop Creek Canyon will give you the opportunity of winning big bucks by catching specially-tagged Alpers Trout. In addition, all registered participants will be entered in a raffle for great prizes. Bishop Creek Canyon has five fishable lakes including South Lake, Weir Pond, Intake Two, Lake Sabrina and North Lake and all with be stocked with the tagged fish. There is over twenty miles of excellent fishable creeks. Just 20 - 30 minutes from downtown Bishop.

14-18 California High School Rodeo State Finals- Tri-County Fairgrounds, Bishop. Athletes from high schools all over California compete for the state rodeo championship on a scale comparable with college and professional rodeo. Approximately 300 contestants will compete in the State Finals. The top four contestants at the State Finals, in each event, then qualify for the worlds largest rodeo, the National High School Finals Rodeo. The event is put on by the California High School Rodeo Association (CHSRA) in conjunction with the Bishop Area Chamber of Commerce. General admission tickets will available at the gate. The events primary objective is to raise funds for the fisheries enhancement of Crowley Lake. 100% of the proceeds will be used to purchase and raise brown trout for stocking into Crowley Lake. Pre-registration is requested with check in on August 8th. If any of you businessmen or merchants out there are interested in contributing as a sponsor, please see the attached contributor letter.
