3-4 NEW & IMPROVED FESTIVITIES FOR 4TH OF JULY WEEKEND IN BISHOP! Click here for flyer It’s hard to believe, but the Independence Day holiday weekend is nearly here. The 4th is always a time to celebrate all that’s great about our country and our community. The City of Bishop Parks and Recreation Department has teamed up with Inyo Council for the Arts (ICA) to provide some new, fun and free ways to celebrate this year and they would like to invite all residents and visitors to join in. To get things started, there will be a FREE live concert in the Bishop City Park on Friday evening, July 3rd. Big Sandy and His Fly-Rite Boys will take the stage at 7:15pm and they’re sure to be a crowd pleaser! They have mastered American Roots Style Music – playing a variety of Western Swing, Rockabilly, Traditional Country, and “Good Old Rock-n-Roll.” The group has played at the Grand Ole Opry and appeared on Late Night with Conan O’brien. Whether you prefer to spread a blanket and watch from your seat on the grass, or get up and dance the night away, everyone’s welcome. And, did we mention it’s FREE? Thanks to grant funding recently awarded by the California Arts Council, (ICA) is able to host this show at no charge to the public. “We’re hoping many people will pack a picnic dinner & enjoy a fun family evening at the City Park to start the holiday weekend off right,” explains Keith Caldwell, City of Bishop Community Services Director. But, don’t bring dessert…an old-fashioned pie & ice-cream social is slated for 6:30 pm. Kids of all ages can enjoy hands-on creative fun at the Arts & Crafts tables on Friday from 4-6pm and Saturday from 9am until Noon (that’s free too). On Saturday, the Bishop City Park Pool will be open for public swimming and waiving the fee from 1-5pm (more free fun!).
